From now until my next quarterly newsletter, there is plenty to see and do around the city as the weather warms up. From enjoying a preview of Fall 2018 fashion while it’s still cold out during Fashion Week, to watching the cherry blossoms bloom at the Botanical Gardens, here is what is still in store for late winter and early spring.

Restaurant Week
January 22 – February 9, 2018
Various Locations
Instead of firing up the grill during Restaurant Week, take advantage of the wide range of restaurants offering lunch and dinner specials for a limited time. A three course lunch is $29 and dinner is $42 at any of the 377 participating restaurants.

Fashion Week
February 8 – 16, 2018

Get a sneak peak at Fall 2018 fashions at this year’s Fashion Week, now in its 75th year. Designers will include Adam Selman, Helen Anthony, and Yajun.

Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival

The Science Fiction Film Festival, now in its 6th year, screens films that “push the cinematic form to new levels of creativity…” and “…challenge the viewers reality with ideas and concepts not normally found in conventional stories.”

New York Wild Film Festival
February 22 – 25, 2018

All films screened at the NYWFF have to do with wildlife, the environment, exploration, and adventure. The festival is now in its fourth year and has been lauded as an exceptional film festival by attendees of years past, many of whom are outdoor athletes and nature lovers such as Angie Payne, 3 time bouldering national champion (she is also featured in one of the past films). The festival’s sponsor list includes The Explorers Club, Wildlife Conservation Society, and National Geographic.

Children’s Film Festival
February 23 – March 18, 2018

The Children’s Film Festival is perfect for families of children aged 3 – 18. The 100 films include animation, documentary, live action, and experimental genres, and represent over 300 countries and more than 15 languages.

The Film Comment Film Festival showcases premiers of eminent new films alongside older ones with strong voices and bold visions that should be featured on the silver screen.

Chinese New Year Lunar Parade and Festival

Valentine’s Day
February 14th

Choose from a boozy St. Patrick’s Day or ham it up sober-style this year. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade extends along 5th Avenue from 44th to 79th Streets on March 17 starting at 11 AM and Time Out has a list of bars along the parade where you can say cheers to the Saint. Sober St. Patrick’s Day 2018 features a long list of world-class musicians, singers, and dancers who are ready to make the special day one that fully exhibits the breadth and depth of Irish culture through fun and family-friendly events.

Now in its 25th year, the Affordable Art Fair features over 400 local , national, and international contemporary artists. The beautifully curated pieces range in price from $100 to $100,000. The fair also offers complimentary workshops, talks, and tours.

Havana Film Festival New York

The Havana Film Festival New York puts on on a number of shorts, feature films, and documentaries from across Latin America, all with English subtitles.

Bacon and Beer Classic
